Custom Sauna Builder in Iowa

We build traditional Finnish saunas by hand in the Twin Cities and deliver them across Iowa, from Sioux City to the Quad Cities. Every build starts with a red cedar hot room and your choice of a stove, then goes together as either a mobile sauna on a trailer or a permanent outdoor sauna set on your property.

A Finnish Tradition, Built in the Midwest

We are a Finnish rooted company out of the Twin Cities, and sauna building is not something we learned from a manual, it is something that got passed down. The methods we use now are the same ones our families used, a proper cedar hot room, real stones, a stove that actually holds heat.

Iowa customers come to us for a lot of different reasons, a lake place near Okoboji, a farm outside Ames, a backyard in West Des Moines. What stays the same across all of it is the build itself. We are not adjusting quality based on where something is headed, a sauna going to a small lot in Cedar Rapids gets the same cedar and the same stove as one going out to acreage in the northwest corner of the state.

How It Works?

Tell Us About Your Dream Sauna

Size, mobile or outdoor, stove type, budget. We will put together a plan around what you tell us and work out the details from there.

We Build It

Your sauna is built in our Minnesota shop, by hand, using traditional Finnish methods rather than prefab panels.

We Deliver It

Once it is finished, we bring it to you and set it up wherever you are in Iowa.

Mobile or Permanent Outdoor Sauna

Both start from the same hot room and the same stove. The real difference comes down to whether the sauna stays put or travels with you. A permanent build makes sense if you already know exactly where it is going to live, a specific corner of the yard, a spot by the pond. A mobile build makes more sense if that answer is not fixed yet, or if you want the option to take it to the lake for the summer and bring it home in the fall.

Take Anywhere

Mobile Sauna

Built on a heavy duty trailer so you can bring it to the lake, a friend’s place, or wherever else it needs to go. Same cedar interior and stove as our permanent builds.

Built to order

Outdoor Sauna

A permanent structure set in place on your property, built to hold up through Iowa’s full range of weather, humid summers included.

Price It Out Yourself

The sauna customizer lets you add options and see the price change in real time, no call required until you are ready. Once your build looks right, send it to us and we will take it from there.

What people say about us

Work Out How You Will Use It First

Before locking in specs, it helps to think through what the sauna is actually for, hosting people regularly, a quiet spot for one or two, something you take to the lake each summer. The customizer lets you test that out, add a dressing room if you expect company, skip it if you do not, add solar if the sauna is going somewhere without power. The build follows the use case, not the other way around.

Our sauna builder starts you at the base hot room and stove, then lets you add or remove options one at a time while the price updates with each change. Nothing is final until you send us the result, so it is a good place to land on a use case before turning it into an order.

Financing is available, and saunas can qualify as an FSA or HSA wellness expense. Details →

What Actually Sets a Finnish Sauna Apart

When it comes to crafting mobile saunas, Minnesota Mobile Sauna is more than just a manufacturer; we’re active operators. We know what works because we’ve seen it firsthand. We run these saunas day-in and day-out, continuously applying lessons learned to our design. And as second-generation Finns, authentic sauna culture has been part of our lives since childhood.

A few things we have learnt that makes a mobile sauna business successful:

Wood Fired Heat

A wood fired stove heats stones directly rather than blowing warm air around a room, which produces a drier, more radiant heat that most people find easier to sit in for longer sessions.

Real Cedar Construction

Red cedar resists moisture and holds up to repeated heating and cooling without warping the way cheaper woods do, which is part of why it has been the standard material for generations.

Löyly You Control

Splashing water on the hot stones creates löyly, a burst of steam that raises the heat and humidity on your own terms rather than running at one fixed setting the whole time.

Proper Venting

Sliding vents manage airflow during a session and let the wood fully dry out afterward, which is part of what keeps a well built sauna from developing mold or breaking down over time.

None of this is complicated, but it does take more material and more build time than a sealed box with a heater in it. What you get for that is a sauna that behaves the way sauna is supposed to, heat you can adjust as you go, in a space built to actually last.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

Does a Finnish sauna make sense in Iowa's humid summers?

Yes. The hot room and stove are built to produce and hold dry radiant heat regardless of outside humidity, and proper venting keeps the wood drying out between uses even in a wet Iowa summer.

Regularly. A good share of our Iowa deliveries go to farms and acreage off the main road. Let us know what the access looks like and we will plan the route and setup around it.

Very. A trailer build can stay at the lake for the season and come home with you when it is over, or park in the driveway in the off months. It is one of the more common ways customers end up using a mobile build.

Most builds are finished within about four weeks once specifications are set. Materials and our current schedule can shift that slightly, and we will give you a realistic timeline before starting.

Our standard 10 foot Essential Sauna starts at 14,900 dollars, including the cedar hot room, wood fired stove, benches, siding, and a heavy duty trailer. Add ons change the final price, send us your specifications for an exact number.

It depends on where you live and which sauna you choose. Mobile saunas on a trailer typically don’t require a building permit since they’re not a permanent structure. A stationary outdoor sauna may need one depending on your city or county rules. A quick call to your local building office will give you a clear answer, and we’re happy to talk through your setup before you order.

Look for a custom sauna builder with genuine Finnish sauna experience, not just a company assembling prefab kits. Ask what materials go into the build, whether the stove is a real wood fired unit, how well the sauna is insulated for Wisconsin winters, and whether delivery and setup are included in the price. A good sauna builder should also be willing to walk you through sizing, layout, and add on options rather than offering just one fixed design.

We walk you through everything you need to know before we leave. General maintenance is straightforward and we are always available if you have questions down the line.
