Custom Sauna Builder in North Dakota

We build authentic Finnish saunas by hand in the Twin Cities and deliver them across North Dakota, from Fargo and Grand Forks to the western edge of the state. Every sauna is built to order, on a trailer for a mobile sauna or as a permanent structure for an outdoor sauna in your backyard. Choose a wood fired stove for that traditional Finnish heat, or an electric stove if that fits your setup better.

Built By People Who Grew Up With Sauna

Minnesota Mobile Sauna is a Finnish rooted company out of the Twin Cities. Sauna was never a special occasion thing for us growing up, it was just part of the week, and that is the standard we build to now. Every unit starts with a red cedar hot room, real benches, and a stove built to actually hold heat, not a thin box with a heater bolted in.

North Dakota winters ask more of a sauna than most places do. Long stretches of cold, constant wind, and big overnight temperature swings mean a poorly insulated build will fight you the whole season. Our saunas are framed and insulated like a small building, not assembled from flat pack panels, so the heat stays put and the wood fired stove does not have to work overtime to keep up.

Some customers want a sauna that lives on their property for good. Others want to hitch it up and take it to the cabin next weekend. Here is what each looks like.

Take Anywhere

Mobile Sauna

Built on a trailer so you can bring it to the lake cabin, the hunting land, or just park it in the driveway for the season. Same cedar interior and real stove as our permanent builds, just on wheels.

Built to order

Outdoor Sauna

A permanent build set in place at your home, cabin, or acreage. Built to sit through years of North Dakota winters without losing heat or drying out.

Try It Before You Call

The sauna builder lets you test sizes, stoves, and add ons on your own time and see real pricing as you go. Send us what you land on and we will pick it up from there.

Choosing Size and Options

Every build starts with a red cedar hot room and your choice of a wood fired or electric stove. From there you can size it up or down, add a dressing room or a porch, bring in windows for natural light, add sliding vents, and for mobile builds, choose solar or shore power. The sauna customizer lets you build it piece by piece and see the price update as you go.

Financing is available, and saunas can qualify as an FSA or HSA wellness expense. Details →

Delivery Across North Dakota

Free delivery and setup covers anywhere within 300 miles of the Twin Cities, which comfortably reaches Fargo, Grand Forks, and most of the Red River Valley. If your build is heading further west, out toward Bismarck, Minot, Dickinson, or Williston, that falls outside the free radius and a delivery fee applies. We still make the trip regularly, including out to farms and land off the main highway, so distance is not a reason to rule us out. Reach out with your location and we will give you a clear number before you order anything.

Not All "Sauna" Means the Same Thing

The word sauna gets thrown around loosely these days, and a lot of what gets marketed under that name would not be recognized as one by the people who actually invented the tradition. Part of that is just how the market evolved, sauna became a catch all term for anything hot and enclosed. Part of it is that the real thing, built the traditional way, takes more time and material than most companies want to put into it.

If you have shopped around at all, you have probably already run into a few different things sold under the same word, so it is worth knowing what separates them before you commit to one.

Traditional Finnish Sauna

Heated by a wood fired or electric stove that warms rocks, which you then splash with water to create löyly, the burst of steam that raises the heat and humidity in short waves. This is the original version, and it is what we build.

Infrared Sauna

Uses infrared panels to heat your body directly rather than heating the air around you. It runs at a lower temperature and skips the stones, water, and steam entirely. Different experience, different tradition.

Steam Room

Built to hold near total humidity at a lower temperature than a sauna, usually tiled and sealed rather than built from wood. Good for what it does, but it is a different category with a different origin.

Prefab Electric Box

An enclosed space with an electric heater bolted in, often sold as a sauna kit. It can technically get hot, but without a proper hot room, real stones, and the airflow to manage steam and drying, it is closer to a heated closet than a Finnish sauna.

The Real Thing, Built the Real Way

None of this is about running down the other options, an infrared cabinet or a steam room can be exactly right for someone else’s needs. But if what you actually want is the tradition itself, the wood fired heat, the stones, the löyly, that is specifically what a traditional Finnish sauna is built around.

We build real Finnish saunas, wood fired or electric, with a cedar hot room, real rocks, and the airflow to support proper löyly, the same way sauna has been built for generations. That is the version we grew up with, it is the version we still use ourselves, and it is the only version we put our name on.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Question

How long does it take to build a custom sauna?

Most builds are finished within about four weeks once your specifications are locked in. Materials and our current schedule can shift that slightly, so we will give you a realistic timeline before you order.

Wood fired is the traditional choice and what most of our customers pick, especially if you want to use the sauna off grid or somewhere without reliable power. Electric is a good option if you already have power at the site and want a simpler, more consistent heat up. We can walk through both once we know your setup.

It depends on where you live and which sauna you choose. Mobile saunas on a trailer typically don’t require a building permit since they’re not a permanent structure. A stationary outdoor sauna may need one depending on your city or county rules. A quick call to your local building office will give you a clear answer, and we’re happy to talk through your setup before you order.

Yes. We have physical locations in Golden Valley, Cokato, and Brimson where you can come and see the sauna up close. You can also rent one first and apply your rental fees toward the final purchase price.

Regularly. A lot of our North Dakota deliveries go to acreages, hunting land, and farms well off the main road. Let us know what the access looks like, gravel, field roads, gates, and we will plan the delivery around it.

As a reference, our standard 10 foot Essential Sauna starts at $14,900 and includes a red cedar steam room, wood-fired stove, benches, exterior siding, and a heavy duty trailer. Smaller and larger sizes are available, and add ons like a dressing room, extra windows, upgraded stoves, and solar or shore power shape the final price. Reach out and we’ll give you a clear number for the build you have in mind.

Yes. Every build is insulated for cold weather use, and a wood fired stove will bring the hot room up to temperature fast even in subzero wind. If your site is especially exposed, we can talk through stove sizing and placement to account for it.

We walk you through everything you need to know before we leave. General maintenance is straightforward and we are always available if you have questions down the line.
